Nature Treks & Nature's Niche are active in rescue and conservation of our native wildlife and wildflowers and ask our guest to leave the wild in wildlife by leaving it! Some of the animals are on Wisconsin's threatened and endangered species list.
We are working on an ongoing project to preserve areas for the many turtle species with focus on the threatened wood turtle (Clemmys insculpta)!
2004-We have adopted a section of US Hwy-39 south bound from the Plover River to the County Business Park in order to promote a cleaner environment for the many visitors to the Stevens Point area. Please Keep It Clean!
In 2003, we helped in the removal and relocation of several Little Brown Bats from a local woman's house. It was estimated that she had up to 300-500. This is the first of many ongoing bat conservation projects we have undertaken and plan to relocate the houses in 2006-2007.
In 2004, we began a program named "Wings on a Wire". This program gets volunteers out to local lakes and parks in canoes and kayaks to cut and collect fishing line and lures out of shoreline trees so birds don't get tangled in them!

Get involved and help song birds by taking part in our "Bird on the Line Program" We offer several days in spring for you to help collect fishing line along the edge of the public lakes and fishing areas. Each year during nesting season each spring song bird collect fishing line along the waters edge and us it in their nest . The problem: BOTH they and their young get caught in it and die! Take up the paddle to help wildlife and collect some great fishing lures along the way.
Since 2005, Nature Treks has donate 3 vehicles to the Raw Hide Foundation founded by Bart Starr located next to the Wind River Wild life Rescue near New London, WI.
In 2006, Nature Treks moved to the city nature center located in Iverson Park. This move was a win-win due to the fact that funding for the nature center and youth programs had been cut. As the past County Naturalist my business has always had active education programs about conservation, nature and river preservation. Since our move we have paid thousands in rent and 15% fee on all concessions, programs and sales to the city parks dept. This money has allowed the parks to repair buildings and replace windows on some of the buildings. In 2006 we were awarded a grant form "Room Tax Grant Committee" to place a new floating dock into Iverson Park.
